Liposuction

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery designed to remove excess fat deposits from specific areas of the body, such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms, and neck, to improve body contours and proportions. While liposuction is not a weight-loss procedure, it can help sculpt and refine areas that are resistant to diet and exercise. This procedure is popular among both men and women and can be performed alone or in combination with other cosmetic surgeries.

  • Improved body contour and proportions: Achieve a more balanced and aesthetically pleasing figure.
  • Targeted fat removal in stubborn areas: Effectively remove fat from areas resistant to diet and exercise.
  • Immediate, visible results: Noticeable improvements after swelling subsides.
  • Boosted confidence and self-esteem: Feel more confident and positive about your appearance.
  • Ability to combine liposuction with other procedures: Enhance results by combining with procedures like tummy tucks or breast augmentation.
  • Anesthesia: Liposuction is typically performed under general anesthesia, but in some cases, local anesthesia with sedation is used for smaller areas.
  • Incision: Small, discreet incisions (usually about a quarter of an inch long) are made near the area to be treated.
  • Tumescent Fluid Injection: A solution of saline, lidocaine (a local anesthetic), and epinephrine (to reduce bleeding) is injected into the treatment area. This fluid helps to numb the area, minimize blood loss, and make fat removal easier.
  • Fat Removal: A thin tube called a cannula is inserted through the incisions to loosen the fat. The cannula is moved back and forth to break up the fat deposits, which are then suctioned out using a surgical vacuum or syringe.
  • Closing Incisions: Once the desired amount of fat is removed, the small incisions are either left open to allow excess fluid to drain or closed with stitches.
  • Recovery: After the procedure, patients are typically advised to wear compression garments to reduce swelling and help the body adjust to its new contours. Recovery time varies depending on the extent of the liposuction, but most patients can return to light activities within a few days and resume more strenuous activities after a few weeks.
  • Bruising and swelling: Common side effects that subside after a few weeks.
  • Infection: A rare but possible complication that can be treated with antibiotics.
  • Contour irregularities: In some cases, the skin may appear uneven or bumpy if too much or too little fat is removed.
  • Loose skin: If the skin doesn’t retract properly after fat removal, it can remain loose or saggy.
  • Fat embolism: In rare cases, loosened fat may enter the bloodstream and block blood vessels, which can be life-threatening if not treated immediately.
